During the 18th-century, Montpelier Plantation Inn was a working sugar plantation, but today the 30 acre estate is a small luxury hotel given over to myriad varieties of tropical plants. Located 750 feet above the Caribbean Sea, this grand lady of Nevis has been wonderfully reincarnated by new owners who have given the inn a fresh look while keeping unpretentious, elegant touches like afternoon tea. The fieldstone great house re-creates the 18th-century original, while the well maintained gardens and grounds provide a warm welcome of floral intrigue.


Accommodation - 17 Rooms

With only 17 rooms, the staff to guest ratio at this small luxury hotel is extremely high, with a service consistently and quietly exceptional. The newly renovated hillside cottages are furnished in a cool, clean tropical style, displaying an almost Asian simplicity, with bamboo or four-poster canopy beds and baskets of fresh flowers. Each has its own private veranda open to the sun, to the wind and to the sea. The suite offers a separate living area with a double sofa-bed in addition to the bedroom with king sized bed, full bath and large patio. Although telephones are provided, the proximity of the outside world is kept nicely at bay by the thoughtful absence of televisions. After a few days in such surroundings, the noisy bustle of the outside world seems a distant memory, replaced by a soothing chorus of tree frogs and cicadas. Several rooms have recently been outfitted with air conditioning units.
