Riad Lotus Privelege is the latest addition to the Lotus Riads’ impressive portfolio of small luxury hotels in Marrakech. Housed in the 17th-century pleasure palace of a Marrakshi Pasha, it has been re-invented by Belgian interior designer Antoine Van Doorne to suit the 21st-century traveler with a taste for luxury boutique hotels. With a touch of the flashy bling of Riad Lotus Perle and the cosiness of Riad Ambre, space is what sets Riad Lotus Privelege apart from its sister boutique hotels. The large central courtyard has a generous pool (a rarity in Marrakech riads where a plunge pool is de rigeur) surrounded by sun-loungers and screened off with bamboo. Elegant outdoor furniture and deep sofas under the shade of orange trees offer a respite from the African sun during the summer months and the winter Garden Salon makes for a grand retreat at the end of the year when evenings can get chilly. The beautiful papier mache dress sculpture by Lori Park studded with dried roses which stands sentinel-like in the decadent salon sums up Riad Lotus Privelege. As this luxury riad’s name suggests, this boutique bolthole in the heart of Dar El Bacha is dedicated to unadulterated glamour.

Like all the Lotus Riads, Riad Privelege has only 5 rooms which means it is perfect as a small boutique hotel or for exclusive rental to celebrate that extra-special occasion. Anyone who takes just one room can enjoy an intimate atmosphere and an intriguing guest-list that resembles the cast of an Agatha Christie thriller. The 3 suites are particularly grand, especially the Green Suite which has a mini library, a cavernous bathroom with separate bath and shower and a cinema screen that covers a wall of the living room at the flick of a switch. Suite Maron gets top marks for glamour thanks to its organic chimney breast with an abstract swirl that resembles a lotus and its decadent bathroom clad in a million mirrors.
Activities
A stay at the Riad Lotus Privelege usually revolves around the large heated pool, but serious sun-worshipping can also be enjoyed on the large terrace with its spectacular views over the medina of Marrakech. All guests will head for the hammam at least once during their stay as it’s large by other luxury riad standards, but the massage room is by far the most popular amenity.
Dining
Guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner here with a mainly Moroccan theme. The chef, however, cleverly infuses Italian and French flavours into the dishes.
