Riad Tarabel is a quirky new addition to Marrakech’s collection of luxury riads. Named after the town near to Toulouse where the French owner was born, Riad Tarabel has the traditional layout of a Marrakech riad with a distinctly French twist. Antique paintings of bucolic scenes depicting the South of France adorn the winter salon and the summer salon, antique bird cages and stuffed parrots are an homage to the chorus of birdsong that greets the Marrakchi dawn and Chinese lanterns are a nod to the eclectic tastes of the modern globetrotter. Guests are given local mobile phones so they don’t get lost in the labyrinthine souks and staff at this small luxury riad can keep them updated about restaurant bookings and day trips they’ve planned beyond the ancient walls of Marrakech. They are also kitted out with traditional Moroccan national dress - a pair of babouche (pointy slippers) and a djelaba (robe with pointy hood) that they can take home at the end of their stay.

Accommodation - 3 rooms

Riad Talabar has only 3 rooms, all painted in the same soft greys and beiges of the public areas. The enormous suite is a perfect pad for the playboy who likes his toys as it has a cavernous bathroom with double-shower and a separate living room with huge plasma TV complete with Playstation. This charming riad is soon set to double in size.

Activities

Riad Tarabel would make the perfect boutique bolthole for a media mogul or movie star. Instead of your common and garden plasma screen TVs, a projector has been set up to show films on the huge whitewashed wall in the riad’s courtyard. The hammam is large for your average riad, there’s a massage room and a large pool will be installed in Phase 2.

Dining

Thanks to a fantastic in-house chef, food at Riad Talabar is almost all home-made including the breads and jams for breakfast. For lunch and dinner guests can choose between traditional Moroccan dishes and European comfort food like pizzas and pastas. The kitchen is open 24 hours so you can snack away in the dead of night and limitless teas and coffees are thrown in for free.
