Lulu Townsend developed a passion for small boutique hotels while working at her parent’s beautiful small luxury hotel in Italy more than 10 years ago. Starting with some of her favourite small chic hotels, she launched the website in 2003 with just 17 properties. Chic Retreats is the definitive collection of privately owned genuinely small boutique hotels, including Lulu's favourite boutique hotels in England, chic hotels in China and her pick of hidden little gems in France.
